Platform orchestration and durable execution are not the same category
Kestra is strongest as a broad orchestration platform across data, infrastructure, and operational workflows. Inngest is much more application-oriented, focused on durable event-driven functions. Restate is even closer to runtime infrastructure, adding resilience and state to normal services. Temporal remains the benchmark many teams compare against for durable workflow depth.
That means the right buying question is not which tool has the most workflow features. It is which layer the team actually needs: a shared orchestration surface, durable functions inside app code, or a resilient runtime for service execution.
