That means buyers should not ask only which tool 'does observability.' The sharper question is whether the team needs a tracing foundation, a broad operations platform, or a debugging-first product that helps engineers understand complex systems faster.

Honeycomb stands out for public pricing clarity built around event volume. Jaeger has no software subscription, but shifts cost into infrastructure and operator time. Broad suites like Datadog often become expensive because multiple data types and modules stack together quickly.
