Standard, service, and framework are not the same category
OpenLineage matters when the team wants lineage events collected consistently across tools. Marquez matters when the team wants a concrete service and UI for working with that metadata. Apache Atlas matters when governance, classification, and metadata control are the real priorities, especially in older or Hadoop-heavy estates.
That means the right choice depends less on feature-checklist overlap and more on where the architecture gap actually sits. Some teams need a common lineage language first. Others need an operational lineage backend. Others need a governance-centered metadata framework.
