Fly.io runs your containers as Machines in regions you choose, fronted by Anycast load balancing and free inbound bandwidth. You pay for running Machines by CPU/RAM preset per second, for stopped Machines by rootfs storage, for provisioned volumes (about $0.15/GB-month), and for outbound data transfer with region-group rates (for example about $0.02/GB public egress in North America/Europe on granular pricing—see fly.io/docs/about/pricing). Dedicated IPv4, managed certificates, and static egress IPs are small add-on lines.
Managed Postgres and extensions like Upstash Redis bill through the platform. Fly Kubernetes lists around $75/month per cluster plus underlying compute. GPU Machines were on deprecation timelines—confirm current status before planning GPU workloads.
Fly fits teams comfortable with containers and regions who want more control than classic PaaS but less than raw EKS. Compare Cloudflare Workers when request-level edge compute dominates; compare Railway or Render when you want the simplest git-to-URL path; compare AWS Fargate when IAM and VPC complexity is already sunk cost.
